Song of the Arkafina

Song of the Arkafina

Song of the Arkafina Series

The first books of the “Gyre Cosmos” from Suzanne Francis.

Welcome to the world of Katrione du Chesne, the Arkafina!  Katrione is a brave and capable healer who follows where her heart leads–from her home country of Beaumarais, up and down the continent of Yr, into the kingdom of Death, and beyond the mysterious Gyre.

Katrione’s story spans four books:  Heart of Hythea, Ketha’s Daughter, Dawnmaid, and Beyond the Gyre.  The books are linked as a continuous narrative, but each has a complete story arc.  Each volume also features a divination or fortune-telling system, carefully laid out and explained within the appendices at the back of each book.  Heart of Hythea has the Luckcast cards; Ketha’s Daughter, the Linnun or Water Runes; Dawnmaid, the Triske Stones, and Beyond the Gyre, the Folium.  Each of these divinatory methods belongs to the four main races within the books;  the Amaranthine, the Fynara, the Firaithi, and the mysterious Dark Angellus.

The idea for the series came from my desire to write a book with a strong female protagonist–one who isn’t afraid to fight for what she believes in and who doesn’t wait around for the hero to ride up on his white horse and rescue her.  I also wanted to create different cultures and see how they would interact with each other.  Language has always fascinated me, and I spent a long time creating words for the Arkafina series.  Each book has extensive reference material, including maps, glossaries, descriptions of the divination systems used and extra historical information.

My books are available from Mushroom in various Ebook formats and are being issued in paperback by Bladud Books.
