The galleys for Heart of Hythea arrived while we were away this weekend, so I had a nice surprise waiting for me.  Hopefully the book will be out by Christmas.

We had a great time at the beach house on Purakaunui Bay, loads of sunny weather and some yummy salmon steaks for dinner.  I climbed about halfway up the cliffs on the other side of the bay, so I got plenty of exercise.

I have my first official cover blurb! On one of Pat Bertram’s soon-to-be bestsellers, coming from Second Wind publishing.

Have a look, here.

This does help with the sting of not making the finals for the Eppie awards. But I’m still disappointed.

I’ll be judging the final round though, so I can have a good idea what sorts of talent my books were up against. Maybe next year…

Beyond the GyreBeyond the Gyre has now hit the aether, available from Fictionwise, Amazon and all the other people on the side bar. For more details, check out the tab at the top of my blog!

Its always exciting (and nerve-wracking) for me when a new work is released. Especially this one, because there have been a few hang-ups and delays. This officially closes the book (ha ha bad pun I know) on Arkafina, and lends a sense of urgency to my latest writing. I had quite a big back log when I got my publishing contract, so I wasn’t too worried about production. But now I have only one book ready, and a single chapter of another.

Time to get busy!

The last book of Song of the Arkafina will be out November 17th, all being well with Fictionwise.  This has taken a long time to happen, and I am pleased.  I am not sure which direction I am heading in at the moment.  I have recently started on Summermoon Fire, but haven’t gotten to the point where I felt I could update the progress bar.  I am still in the planning/synopses stage basically, and I am having trouble bringing the two parts of the story in line with each other.  It deals with the same characters, Suvi in the past and Tessa in the present.  Both will face new danger and heartache.  But whereas Tessa’s story will span just a few months, Suvi’s story covers many years.  Kind of difficult to integrate.

I am working on a couple of ideas though.  🙂

This is one of the days, along with Thanksgiving and July 4th, that I really miss being in America.  But it is a wonderful experience, even looking from afar, to see so many people involved in the political process.  If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to get out and vote for the candidate of your choice!

My hard drive went belly up again last night.  The second time in three months.  *sigh*  I hope I haven’t lost any work, but that remains to be seen.  I was a lot more careful about backing things up after the last debacle, but even so, there would be a whole days worth of revision of Beyond the Gyre gone.  BTG is supposed to be coming out mid-November, and hopefully having to reinstall everything on my hard drive isn’t going to change that.

Not making a lot of progress with my new book.  I can’t really blame the computer for that one.  Sometimes getting that first chapter in the can is difficult.  But I will get there.

Well, I have been taking it easy for the last month, but it is time to get back to writing.  Actually, for me, not writing is much harder than writing, and I’ve only been taking a break because everyone in my family demanded it!  🙂

But enough, already!  I’m ready to start Summermoon Fire, the second book in the Sons of the Mariner…

So–I’ve refreshed my widget, sharpened my keyboard, and poured a fresh, steaming hot cup of words.  Let the fun begin!
